The short version
- Everything Clip Vault saves stays in your browser, on your device.
- Clip Vault has no server and no account. Nothing is uploaded, synced, sold or shared.
- There is no analytics, advertising or tracking of any kind.
- Removing the extension deletes everything it saved.
What Clip Vault saves
Clip Vault is a clipboard history. To do that job it saves:
- Text you copy, while capture is on. Only text is saved, never images or files.
- Text or links you save from the right-click menu with "Save selection to Clip Vault" or "Save link address to Clip Vault".
- Titles and tags you add to clips, and clips you write yourself.
- Basic details about each clip: when it was saved, when you last used it, and how many times you copied it from Clip Vault.
- Your settings, such as theme, history limit and whether capture is on.
What it leaves out
- Passwords and secrets. By default, text that looks like a password, card number, private key or API token is not saved. You can change this in Settings.
- Tracking tags in links. By default, ad-tracking parameters such as
utm_sourceandfbclidare removed from links before they are saved. - Very large copies. Text over 524,288 characters is not saved. Clip Vault only notes its size, so it can tell you it was skipped.
Where your data is kept
Clips and settings are stored in Chrome's local extension storage, inside your browser profile on this device. They are not synced to your Google account or to other devices.
Clip Vault makes no network requests. It has no server to send data to, no analytics, no ads and no remote code. The developer never receives your clips or any information about how you use the extension.
When it touches a web page
Clip Vault does not read the pages you visit. There are only two moments when it interacts with a page, and both start with something you do:
- Save selection. When you right-click selected text and choose "Save selection to Clip Vault", it reads that selected text so it can save it.
- Paste into the page (optional, off by default). If you turn this on, Chrome asks you to allow access to websites. Then, when you pick a clip, Clip Vault types it into the text field you were using. It checks only what kind of field has focus. It does not read the field's contents or anything else on the page.
Incognito windows
Chrome doesn't tell extensions which window text was copied from, so text you copy in an Incognito window is saved too. To avoid that, pause capture before you copy: right-click the Clip Vault toolbar icon and choose a pause, or turn capture off in the popup.
You're in control
- Turn capture off or back on from the popup, or pause it for 5 minutes or an hour from the toolbar icon's right-click menu.
- Delete any clip, select several to delete at once, or clear your whole history in Settings.
- Have clips delete themselves after 1, 7, 30 or 90 days, and choose how many to keep. Favorites are kept until you remove them.
- Export your history as a JSON file, or import one, from Settings. The file goes only where you save it.
- Remove the extension to delete all of its data from this browser.

Chrome Web Store user data policy
Clip Vault's use of the information it handles complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Your data is used only to provide the clipboard history features described here. It is never transferred to anyone, used for advertising, or used to determine creditworthiness or for lending.
Links to other sites
Settings includes a link to the developer's Ko-fi page. It opens only if you click it, and Clip Vault sends no data with it. Ko-fi's own privacy policy applies on its site.
Changes to this policy
If a future version changes how Clip Vault handles your data, this page will be updated before that version is released, and the date at the top will change. Clip Vault will never start sending your clips anywhere without asking you first.
